Though the scriptures and writings of the saints are innumerable, and the philosophical principles they describe appear to contradict each other, I have reconciled their views and extracted the essence for all of you ...
In the most caring and affectionate way, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj explains the meaning of this beautiful Hindi bhajan. Over five days in November 2002, Kripalu Ji sat before his devotees and spoke to them with such love that it was as if he was speaking to each person individually.
Kripalu Ji Maharaj begins by discussing that every individual soul is a part of the Supreme Soul, Shri Krishna, and therefore, every living being desires everlasting happiness, God. For this reason, we all are servants of happiness or servants of Shri Krishna. However, being turned away from Him and tormented by maya, we have forgotten our essential nature. Once we understand that we belong to God alone, and not this world, we will begin to accumulate what we need for our true spiritual wellbeing.
Kripaluji reveals that we must surrender to God, as this is the only way to realise Him. However, one cannot surrender to Him without first surrendering to a genuine guru. With firm faith in the words of such a guru, we must acquire the scriptural knowledge to achieve our goal, that is, understand the importance of exclusiveness in devotion to both God and guru, and the need to remain vigilant as death can approach at any moment.
The two kinds of divine love are also discussed - the one that is practiced and the other that is attained through the grace of a guru when the heart is fully purified. The guru will help you to purify your heart by engaging you in the easiest spiritual practice to do so - chanting the divine name with rupdhyan, while protecting yourself from transgressions.
